Pride vs Truth
My mom has said to my twice now (if not more), since the beginning of “The Sparkled Life”, that sometimes I only show the good on this site…and forget to show the bad. Not that every post must be pessimistic. It’s just that it is often protratyed that I’m better off than I actually am. I answered with Pride: if I told the truth, who would then want to be my...
Put together a precious little (and very easy) DIY Easter gift For the Happy Easter Peep Printable, see below. (: Keep for next year’s file!! Love, E
I cooked!!! aka the easiest meal ever
Welcome to the easiest meal ever. My whole life, I’ve had the opportunity to be in a house where a home cooked meal was provided pretty much every night (Sunday’s are pizza night). My mom is a fabulous cook. Im very thankful for this because, well, I dont like to cook. Im not bad at cooking I just dont like it. I also dont like to do dishes. And fortunately can now pull...

DIY Bridal Shower
As previously mentioned, I covered some of the bases for my sister’s bridal shower, which was lovely. Here are a few of the turn-outs: The “I DO” door hanger: 1. Gather supplies (letters, paint, ribbon, glue) (I wonder if my parents mind me using my window seat as my painting/crafting bench?) 2. Glue items together, hang on door. Easy as that! The “Wedding...
Sister's Bridal Shower
The other part of March 17th was my sister’s bridal shower part 1.0. The 2.0 version was in Baltimore the weekend after (I unfortunately wasnt feeling well enough to make the trip but I heard it was lovely!). Very good friends of ours put together a LOT of the shower, as well as were our hosts. I was in charge of the fun items: games, prizes and favors. I’ll do a DIY session with...
St. Patricks Day Part 1 - Twin Brother's birthday!
March 17th was a heck of a day! For two reasons: 1, my sister bridal shower and 2, my twin brothers birthday!!! Yes, it is also St. Patrick’s Day. We celebrate/decorate for this day for two reasons: We are part Irish My twin brother’s were born on St. Patrick’s Day (it was planned) So…my mom did a great job on decorating the house in green! (My mom has a...
A word to the wise...
I interrupt this sparkly journey for a moment of, conflict, perhaps, words. Ive been known to be a little aggressive on subjects that matter to me. More so in my past than now. But sometimes that little spark flies again and I feel that I have no choice but to speak up…or rather type it out. #mstrumpcard I have MS. Currently, there is no cure for Multiple Sclerosis. There is not...

One year. Done and sparkled.
Today marks the 1 year anniversary of being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It’s been, thus far, the longest, hardest, most painful yet most exciting year of my life. This is an affirmative. I spent my 1 year day with my family, Starbucks, one of my best friends at one of our favorite restaurants for lunch, came home to a box of goldfish and Starbucks giftcards (thank you!), had a good...
Bike MS: City to Shore 2013 Planning Meeting
Today I attended my first meeting in quite some time. It was via Google + meetings and the meeting topic was “Bike MS: City to Shore 2013 Planning Meeting”. For those that may remember, we participated in Bike MS: City to Shore last year with Team Sparkle, raising over $12,000. The planning team asked me a bit ago if they could use my required “Why I ride” quote from...
my political (past life, short lived) career
I feel like a cat sometimes. A cat with 9 lives. But instead of lives, it’s careers, chapters. Before business, before technology, before higher education, there was politics. I started my political career in 2003, when George W. Bush was running for re-election. I worked with various organizations on bringing the voting power to the swing state of Ohio. I had two high achievements...
Passive Agressive Parker
I consider myself a good driver, well-balanced. I stay within 5 mph of the speed limit and have only gotten one speeding ticket. (In my defense, this speeding ticket was in a “catch-you” speed limit spot). I’ve had two accidents: 1 my fault and 1 not my fault. The one that was my fault was actually before I could even drive. I might’ve bumped/crunched a car with a...
Infusion times 3!!
I was so caught up in my love letters and brains vs beauty that I forgot to document an important moment. As with all beginnings of months for 2013, an infusion (third round), found me once again at the downtown hospital. I will say, the office does a great job on making it as comfortable and as “easy” as possible. No lines, no waiting. Very quite and efficient. Just the...
MS - to making it count
Name that movie and I’ll send a $5 starbucks card :D But for real…10 ways to help promote MS awareness for MS week, MS month. Because every connection counts!!! Love, Eliz
Love, Beauty and Brains
(Curtis Kulig spreading his love tag) Ive been thinking a lot about love lately. What it means, definitions, etc. Ive been fortunate to make observations of love, especially since I am blessed to be surrounded by very loving relationships. Ive also had some interesting reads with regards to love. Which has only made the subject more on my mind. First, the book “The World’s...

Back to the brr burgh
I’m home! And its cold. I miss the 70-80 humidity free, sunny, ocean view weather. As well as the lovely community out there. Though it was for a sad reason my trip was extended, it was very nice to spend quality time with some great people. In the middle of last week, we took a little road trip up the mountains to Big Bear Lake, spending a few days in a beautiful cabin. The weather...
A little over a week ago I took my first MS flight to San Diego to visit my friend Bethany. Her mom, Cheryl, had been fighting brain cancer for a few months and was quite a trooper, a fighter to the end. When I arrived, Cheryl had taken a little turn for the worse. I will always treasure that she was able to say “Hi Liz” when I arrived and some of her last words were “I love you” to Beth. ...
Today I leave for the beautiful state of California. I actually spent a few years growing up in California, the northern area. Beautiful. This trip however is to go and spend some time with a good old best friend, Bethany. Beth was one of the first people I met in college way back in the day. She was an upper classman and took me under her wing to show me the ropes of the college. ...

Miss Corporate America
There are certain things that happen in daily activities that bring me back to previous memories. Before ms memories so to speak. Today I had a very specific one. I was driving to starbucks (surprise). It was a gorgeous day, sunny, warm enough to have your window slightly opened. And a breeze. The breeze was what got me. It took me back to about a year ago. I had gone to the DC...

infusion times 2
Today met my second infusion date. It was much like the first except I knew what to expect this time. Of course it took a few seconds to find a vein but the nurse is experienced and didnt poke around, fortunately. For 6 months (6 infusions) I will be monitored. I tried to hint to the nurse that it was “possibly 3?” but no, its 6. It does provide the perfect opportunity to...
Today “The Sparkled Life” blog here on tumblr hit 10,000 views. I am so amazed and humbled by all the support!! You will never know how much it means to me!!! Every view is a little push to keep me going, to keep me fighting. My stubbornness only goes so far…your support pushes me over (in a good way!! :D). Hope you are having a wonderful day!!! Love, Eliz
This may seem like “well, duh, I hope you shower” but lately this is a huge victory. Showering has just not been my thing. So sad. But shower accomplished! I even did my hair. It is cause for celebration picture. Easy MS sparkler tip: put hot curlers in hair. Let sit for about 20 minutes. Take out and transfer in velcro curlers. It will help bring down the curl and up...
A Puppy Potter DIY
An oldie but a goodie. This was Sputnik’s halloween costume a few years ago. The scarf and cape were made from felt. The glasses and “scar” were pipe cleaners. Sputnik was very proud of this outfit and gladly posed. Just a precious puppy. Hope you all are having a great Saturday! Love, Eliz
So, what do you do all day?
“So…what exactly do you do all day?” This is a common question I have received since the day I was diagnosed with MS. At first, the question made me anxious, for I wasnt doing much of anything with my time. Then I would think that people were judging me for not doing anything. Then it turned into disgust, as if how dare someone ask me that. Cant they see I’m doing...
Gel Nail Polish - and my review
I’m one of those girls who always has her nails painted. Always. Even while in the hospital or in rehab, I made it part of my occupational therapy duty to paint my nails. A challenge but achieved. This obsession…I mean trait…probably originates from my Grandma Martin, who, when I was little, pretty much taught me how to paint my nails before I could write. She was a...
Rainy Day DIY times two
Im in DIY overboard today!! My sparkly lamp make-over project Step 1: Purchase lamp. This one I found at Goodwill (such treasures!!), originally from Ikea, for $1.00. Step 2: Thoroughly clean it. I did not know this lamp’s life story. So I cleaned it, disinfected it, made it ready for it’s new life. Step 3: Paint the bottom portion. (I found this great...
