laughter
since the beginning of my journey through MS, I have experienced the benefit of laughter.  life is too short not to laugh.  chronic disease or not. yes, days are rough and yes, tears are allowed, welcomed actually. but if you cant find laughter in at least some part of your day, well, then become my friend and we shall find it together. <3

the silent goodbye
a few days ago I mentioned how most of my posts are based around Starbucks. Well, here we go again. (: I have a habit of attending the same starbucks regularly, to the point where I become what one would call a “regular”.  I would like to think of it as having lots of starbuck friends. When I had my first episode of multiple sclerosis a few months back, my mom/dad/brother would...

my day with Three Pillar Global
A little over 15 months ago, I was offered a job at a company called Three Pillar Global. Three Pillar Global is a technology company that encompasses innovation, agility, and integrity in the software and mobile development world.   The official title I was hired under was “Business Development Manager” and honestly at the time, was not too sure of what my responsibilities were...

life
a few months back, either in january or february, my bf and i were spending an afternoon in State College. He had just purchased a new bicycle and, since he has a friend who owns a bike shop, was planning on putting it together.  While I love the unpacking and the careful procedures of putting together a bicycle, my ADD kicked in within about 20 minutes.  Luckily there was a Starbucks around...

stepping stones of disappointments
Lately I have felt as if Multiple Sclerosis has taken me on a course of stepping stones of disappointments.  By now I can admit that some of these symptoms of MS are here to stay.  The balance and coordination, the fatigue, the “nerve dancing” and unfortunately, the speech disruption.  I will learn to live with them and hopefully maybe even improve them further.   Whats harder to...

but you look so good!
I was warned when first diagnosed with MS that this saying “but you look so good!” would eventually become the most annoying. Though said with good intentions, what it becomes interpreted as is “you dont look sick.”         No, I dont.  I look the same as I did before.  And I can even still look “really damn good”, it just takes me about 3 hours and instead...

ME!!  Elizabeth “Sparkle” Martin.           Yep, I’ve joined the boys in “Team Sparkle” to participate in Bike MS: City to Shore.  While they do 75 miles for two days, I will be doing the 25 one day event.  In a recumbent bike.  With ice packs and lots of water.  And after completion, it will be point for me against MS! I’m still trying to convince...

HOPE
right after posting my last post about hating MS,  how discouraged I am with it in my life, and of “why me?” questioning, i came across this: “God gave us the gift of feelings, and feelings are good.  But feelings should simply be indicators -  never dictators - of how we react to our situations.” So I deleted that post, as it was strictly dictated by my feelings.  I was...

things about me
Today has been a good day.  I’ve had some energy and spirit enough that I felt like “me”. I know that MS is redefining that me in many ways currently.  But there are some things that MS wont change or memories it wont affect. So I started to write them down.  A list of things about me. memories of my life so far.  It was a very wonderful exercise to do, allowing me to realize...

fatigue....
Fatigue, being a very common symptom of MS, has landed. This past year I noticed a major decrease in my energy levels.  Then once March hit it made sense that it was due to my immune system eating away at my nervous system. But the fatigue level hadnt really set this low until this past week.  Perhaps its due to the fact that this is the longest since being diagnosed I havent been in a...

alternative therapies
As I have shared before, I am taking the road of complementary therapy in achieving a life with MS: that of medical therapies and alternative therapies. There is a lot of speculation about alternative therapy and Multiple Sclerosis.  Ive learned and been told that any person or any therapy that says “try this and you will be healed completely of MS” is not a truth.  There is no cure...

just some love
for some reason I feel as if the world needs a little love today.  So, as corny as this is, let this little note be my love letter to you.  Know that you are loved and that bad days come and go, but love remains. Maybe the world just needs a little bit more hope.  Or sparkle.  Or both.  New life mission: ready go! Love, Eliz
